The creator of a free alternative to Adobe's Creative Cloud suite has struck again, reverse-engineering Microsoft's popular Office suite and making it available for free. Brandon Thomas, co-founder of ArtCraft, announced the open-source versions of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word on the ArtCraft website. These apps, named GridCraft, DeckCraft, and WordCraft, respectively, are already downloadable and function similarly to their Microsoft counterparts, costing nothing to use.
The startup will also provide optional AI image and video generation credits powered by Google's Nano Banana Pro. ArtCraft's latest tools offer an advantage over Google's Sheets, Docs, and Slides, which require an internet connection and are free. While Adobe and Microsoft have faced criticism for rising prices, limiting subscriptions, and charging for unnecessary features, the release of these free alternatives provides a win for the open-source community and those who have been paying high fees for years.
