Philadelphia indie band Empath's leader, Catherine Elicson, is set to release her first solo album, River Of Fat, in a matter of weeks. Elicson has shared two new tracks from the album, "I'm On Fire" and "All Sound," which exhibit a vastly different sound than her previous work with the band.
"I'm On Fire" is a powerful rocker that delves into the theme of feeling trapped within one's internal world. Its meditative quality allows listeners to get lost in the repetitive heaviness. The live performance of this song was filmed at a friend's cedar tree farm in New Jersey by Elicson's girlfriend Halle Ballard and bandmate Johnny Costa, with the recording done by Shaun Sutkus.
"All Sound" is an improvised, quasi-instrumental track that showcases Elicson's hazy vocals and liquid guitar improvisations. The track's focus on preserving its intuitive, unedited energy results in a levity that contrasts with some of the heavier moments on the album. A live video of Elicson performing "I'm On Fire" solo outdoors is also available, further demonstrating her ability to create captivating music using minimal equipment.
