Canada-Based Doctor Equip, Renovates Health Centre in Anambra

Dr Charles Kene Ojukwu, a medical practitioner based in Canada, has recently donated an array of medical equipment to the Primary Health Centre located at Christ the King Parish in Abatete, Anambra State, with the aim of bolstering maternal and newborn healthcare services. The generous donation, facilitated by the Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative Foundation, included items such as an autoclave machine, suction machine, cardiac monitor, oxygen cylinders, delivery beds, digital fetal Doppler, nebuliser machine, diagnostic ultrasound machine, and phototherapy machine. Additional equipment included tools for labour and minor surgeries.

The donation ceremony took place on October 11, and was blessed by the Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke. The health centre was also given a fresh coat of paint as part of the comprehensive intervention.

The donations are intended to enhance the accessibility of crucial healthcare services for mothers and newborns at the facility. According to Ojukwu, the equipment will facilitate ultrasound scans for pregnant women, provide phototherapy for infants suffering from jaundice, support emergency interventions with the nebuliser and suction machines, and assist midwives in conducting various procedures, including suturing and episiotomies.

The autoclave machine will also aid in sterilizing medical instruments, thereby maintaining high standards of hygiene and infection control.

The initiative is aimed at reinforcing healthcare delivery and contributing to the reduction of maternal and child mortality rates in Abatete and surrounding communities.
