Official: Venezia sack Stroppa after six straight defeats

Bergamo, Italy – On Tuesday, Venezia FC announced the dismissal of coach Giovanni Stroppa following six consecutive league defeats. The club confirmed his sacking just hours after their third defeat of the season, a 3-1 loss to Atalanta at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

In a statement, Venezia FC expressed gratitude to Stroppa and his staff for their efforts during their time with the team. The club highlighted that Stroppa led the club to promotion to Serie A during the 2025/26 season, despite finishing the campaign in the leading role of a Serie BKT season where they played a pivotal role.

Venice FC's poor form this season is evident, as they have lost all six of their opening Serie A matches, scoring only five goals while conceding 16. The team has managed only one win across all competitions this season.

Stroppa's dismissal comes as the club searches for a replacement. According to multiple sources, including Gazzetta and Sky Sport Italia, Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola are the most likely candidates to take over. Stroppa's dismissal marks the fourth coaching position to be vacated in Serie A this 2026-27 season, following the departures of Fabio Grosso (Fiorentina), Domenico Tedesco (Bologna), and Carlos Cuesta (Parma).

Venice FC's next fixture is a home game against Napoli on Saturday, October 17, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 CET.
