MacRumors reports that Apple has unveiled the new Apple TV 4K, which supports surround sound via the connection of up to four HomePods. Users can arrange the speakers in a 4-way surround sound setup with the front-left, front-right, rear-left, and rear-right positions, or mix and match pairs of HomePod mini 2 and full-sized HomePod 2 speakers, as long as the front and rear pairs match.
Apple relies on computational audio to intelligently recognize each speaker's position in the room, automatically calibrating audio timing and levels to the space. The new Apple TV 4K is available for pre-order starting today and launches on November 13, with a price of $299 for a single configuration featuring 128GB of storage, Wi-Fi 7 support, and an Ethernet port.
