Mets have perfect Rays pitcher to pursue if Tampa Bay does what it has in the past

The New York Mets are considering the possibility of pursuing Rays ace Drew Rasmussen if Tampa Bay follows a pattern of moving on from players before they become free agents. Rasmussen, who has earned back-to-back All-Star nods in the postseason and is slated for a $20 million team option in 2027, has posted a 2.76 ERA over the past five seasons.

While Rasmussen played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2020 and 2021 before joining Tampa Bay, he has been considered an underrated pitcher in the league during his time with the Rays. However, acquiring Rasmussen would likely come at a high cost, especially in a trade scenario. Despite the expense, Rasmussen's skills and experience make him a valuable addition to the Mets' roster, making him a potential need for the team if he becomes available.
