Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, chairman of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Mara), is advocating for the MRSM Bintang Media programme to become an annual event, in partnership with Media Prima Bhd. Dr. Dusuki believes this collaboration can enhance MRSM students' performance in subjects like science, technology, engineering, mathematics, communications, writing, and journalism.
Speaking at the 2026 MRSM Bintang Media programme's closing ceremony, he emphasized that equipping students with communication, writing, and journalism skills would improve the overall quality of learning and education. Present at the event were Media Prima's managing editors, including Jasbant Singh, Farrah Naz Abd Karim, Azhari Muhidin, and Luqman Adrine Ja afar.
Dr. Dusuki highlighted that the programme offers students access to industry expertise and insights, positioning it as a game-changer for enhancing student quality. Previously, newspaper subscriptions were primarily used for classroom activities, but programs like MRSM Bintang Media provide students with a modern perspective on industries such as entertainment, journalism, and broadcasting, which have evolved over time.
Media Prima News and Current Affairs managing editor Jasbant Singh stated that the programme was designed to offer students an engaging learning experience in journalism, media literacy, strategic communications, and digital content creation. Since its online launch on September 8, the programme has attracted 678 students from 58 MRSM campuses.
Both parties hope the programme will serve as a platform to discover and nurture young talent in the media industry while bolstering students' confidence, creativity, and communication skills. Additionally, they aim to strengthen the strategic relationship between Mara and Media Prima. The MRSM Bintang Media programme, under the Siri Jelajah MRSM and Media Prima Talent Development Programme, offered students hands-on exposure to the media industry through sessions with experienced practitioners.
Four categories were covered: Journalism and News Writing, The Art of Writing and News Journalism, Broadcasting and News Presentation, and Photojournalism and Visual Storytelling. Online coaching sessions for these categories took place from September 8 to 11.
