Kuala Lumpur, October 13 — China's industrial gas producer Yingde Gases Group Co Ltd, through its NovaAir Industrial Gases unit, is set to significantly boost the capacity of its Kuala Lumpur plant, aiming for daily production exceeding 90 per cent of its potential within two years. NovaAir has announced plans to increase its investments in Malaysia over the next three to five years, targeting a place among the nation's top three industrial gas suppliers.
The company intends to explore opportunities in Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, while maintaining a focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and local talent development.
NovaAir recently inaugurated a 300-tonne-per-day liquid air separation unit (ASU) at the UMW High-Value Manufacturing Park in Greater Kuala Lumpur, reinforcing Malaysia's domestic supply of essential industrial gases crucial for high-value manufacturing. The facility, commissioned in August 2026, bolsters Malaysia's manufacturing ecosystem and fortifies Yingde Gases' long-term commitment to the Southeast Asian market.
Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid highlighted the importance of industrial gases, stating that their unseen nature does not diminish their significance to industries driving Malaysia's future growth. He emphasized that NovaAir's investment supports critical goals, advancing NIMP 2030 and the Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030, while fostering domestic supply chains, promoting higher-value industrial activities, and creating skilled employment opportunities for Malaysians.
NovaAir's General Manager, Charlene Quek, expressed the company's commitment to forging enduring partnerships with Malaysian businesses and contributing to Malaysia's industrial ambition. The Kuala Lumpur liquid ASU produces oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and high-purity oxygen for various downstream industries, including chemicals, electrical and electronics, oil and gas, food processing, steelmaking, and new-energy lithium battery production.
The plant's proprietary air separation technology, developed and manufactured in-house by Yingde Engineering, utilizes AI-driven control systems to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the plant's carbon footprint.
