Education Minister orders suspension, probe into alleged sexual misconduct by Obuasi SHS headmaster

The Minister of Education has ordered the immediate suspension of Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, due to allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student. This decision came after an investigation by JoyNews and journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni into the incident at the school located in the Ashanti Region.

The Ministry of Education stated that the Minister has directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service to take prompt actions to suspend Mr. Abdulai while a comprehensive investigation into the allegations is conducted. Additionally, the Minister has requested the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service to initiate an inquiry into the matter.

The Ministry emphasized the severity of such allegations, asserting that they are completely intolerable in any educational institution in Ghana. They emphasized that parents and guardians place their trust in educators to safeguard and protect their children, and such behavior is utterly unacceptable. Both the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring that schools serve as secure environments for students.
