On the 2026 International Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland, the documentary “Science Warriors” by Ukrainian International Broadcasting Multimedia Platform of Ukraine (IBMPU) was screened. The film highlights Ukrainian polar explorers who continue their research in Antarctica while defending their country on the front line. The event was part of the Arctic Circle Assembly 2026 and brought together Ukrainian and international scientists.
The English version of the film screened during the session "Polar Opposites: The Arctic Meets the Antarctic." The screening was preceded by a minute of silence for those killed due to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The film's originator, Hennadii Kurkin, moderated a discussion on Ukrainian polar research during wartime. The screening honored the memory of two IBMPU film crew members, Alona Hramova and Yevhen Karmazin, who were killed in October 2025 while on duty. The film's focus extends beyond scientific achievements to human resilience and sacrifices made.
