Donald Trump recently shared a fabricated quote from Denzel Washington on his Truth Social page, praising the president as a "great friend" and extolling his political leadership. The post, which received a significant amount of engagement on social media, was quickly debunked by fact-checking website Snopes, which noted that the quote had been falsely attributed to other celebrities, including Matthew McConaughey and Mick Jagger.
Denzel Washington's publicist, Alan Nierob, confirmed to The Washington Post that he had "no idea" where the fake quote originated and whether the actor had ever met Trump. Washington, who has previously supported Democratic president Barack Obama, is known for keeping his political views private. In 2012, he told GQ that he identifies as an independent, stating that he would never enter politics himself.
