Sarawak govt announces 25% discount on electricity bills for 2027

The Sarawak government has announced a 25% discount on electricity bills for domestic consumers throughout the entire year of 2027. This budgetary initiative is part of the state's financial plan for the coming year, which totals RM14.84 billion. Premier Abang Johari Openg revealed the discount during the presentation of the budget at the state legislative assembly, stating that it would benefit approximately 716,000 households across Sarawak.

The cost of providing this discount amounts to RM281 million. Additionally, the government has introduced a RM5 monthly subsidy for water bills under its free water program, which will assist about 600,000 domestic consumers at an estimated expense of RM35 million. These measures demonstrate the government's commitment to compassion, foresight, and responsibility, all while maintaining fiscal discipline and promoting social equity.
