Sarawak govt announces 25% discount on electricity bills for 2027

The Sarawak government has announced a 25% discount on electricity bills for the year 2027, as part of its budget of RM14.84 billion. Premier Abang Johari Openg revealed this initiative during the state budget presentation at the legislative assembly. The discount will benefit approximately 716,000 domestic consumers in Sarawak, and it is estimated to cost the government RM281 million.

Additionally, the state government is introducing a RM5 monthly subsidy for water bills under the free water program, which will help about 600,000 domestic consumers at a cost of RM35 million. These measures demonstrate the government's commitment to compassion, foresight, and responsibility, while balancing fiscal discipline with social equity.

By providing these safety nets, the government aims to strengthen the fabric of Sarawak, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of their circumstances, can live with dignity, hope, and security.
