Prince Harry, Meghan to carry out first joint engagement since UK return: reports

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are set to conduct their inaugural joint engagement since their relocation to the United Kingdom in August, according to media reports. The event is scheduled for Thursday and will take place in Nottingham, a city in central England, which was the first public gathering of the couple following their engagement announcement in 2017.

The visit, as reported by the Sunday Times, indicates their unwavering commitment to being recognized as public figures, a stance that contrasts with the king's recent letter emphasizing their role as private citizens and urging them to be referred to as His and Her Royal Highnesses. Meghan and Harry are anticipated to participate in initiatives at three charities dedicated to assisting young individuals and local communities via music, film, sports, and combating food insecurity.

The couple's departure from the UK in 2020 was prompted by a contentious rift within the royal family, although they have since mended relations with King Charles III. However, tensions persist with Prince William, the king's eldest son and heir to the throne. After settling in California, the couple unexpectedly returned to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet, in August.

Reports indicate they will depart for the United States for Christmas, acknowledging they won't be invited to the royal family's festivities and are not anticipating an invitation. Traditionally, the royal family convenes at the king's Sandringham estate in eastern England during the Christmas period.
