Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has spoken out about a video that surfaced on social media, showing armed bandits holding a kidnapped family hostage in Kaduna State. The victims, a mother, father and a baby, were reportedly taken captive on October 5, 2026, after a raid on Alrahus Estate in Millennium City. Sani denounced the video as "tragic, unfortunate and condemnable," highlighting the ongoing issue of kidnapping and banditry in the region.
He pointed out previous instances of mass kidnappings in Kaduna, such as the abduction of numerous students from Greenfield University, the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation and Bethel Baptist High School. Sani emphasized that the video demonstrates how banditry is being weaponized for political gain, with criminals demanding exorbitant ransoms and posting the footage online to elicit sympathy and political support.
He called on security agencies to prioritize the safe release of the hostages, acknowledging that, despite the ongoing crisis, security in the state has improved compared to previous years.
