Payton Pritchard Running Out of Time to Sign Extension With Celtics
The Celtics have one week to work out a new deal with one of their most important players.
The Celtics and Payton Pritchard are running out of time to finalize a three-year, $69 million extension before the 2026-27 NBA season begins. Pritchard became eligible for the extension on Oct. 1, but negotiations have yet to reach an agreement. The deadline for signing is Oct. 19, one day before the new season kicks off. If they fail to reach an agreement by then, they can revisit the matter in July 2027.
Pritchard is currently under contract through 2027-28 and has made a strong case for a significant raise, earning the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024-25 and posting career-high averages in points, assists, and rebounds during the 2025-26 season.
