Google’s New Fitbit Edge Offers 50+ Workouts and Replaceable 7-Day Battery Life

Google has revealed its latest fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge, which sits between the more basic Fitbit Air and the more sophisticated Pixel Watch. The device boasts a sleek design and a slim OLED display, alongside enhanced health monitoring, more accurate GPS, AI-driven coaching, and a seven-day battery life. The Edge has a minimalist OLED display that users can customize with various clock faces and complications for tracking data such as steps, sleep quality, and weather.

The wearable comes in colors like Obsidian, Fog, Olive, Canyon, and Stephen Curry Special Edition, which has a basketball-themed clock face. Other band choices include Active Sport, Performance Loop, Metal Links, and Magnet bands.

Powered by Google Health Coach, which utilizes AI from Gemini, the Edge can create personalized workout routines based on users’ schedules and monitor over 50 exercises, providing real-time feedback to help maintain proper form. GPS tracking has improved by 40% compared to previous models, and sleep-tracking accuracy has increased by 15%, offering better insights into sleep patterns.

The device continuously monitors heart rate and performs rhythm assessments, alerting users to any abnormal heart rates. Additionally, Health Guardian tracks long-term health data to detect significant changes that may indicate issues like high blood pressure or insulin resistance.

The Edge offers up to a week of battery life, with a 65mAh power source that can last for a full day with just five minutes of charging. A full charge takes around 90 minutes. The battery is also easily replaceable, potentially extending the tracker's lifespan. With an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, the device can withstand challenging conditions.

Priced at $179.99 for preorder and set to hit stores on October 27, the Edge also comes with a Stephen Curry Special Edition starting at $219.99. Each purchase includes three months of Google Health Premium.
