FULL LIST: Meet the 2026 Nobel Prize winners

In the realm of medicine, Karl Deisseroth from Stanford University, Peter Hegemann from Humboldt University of Berlin, and Georg Nagel from the University of Würzburg shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Their groundbreaking work on light-gated ion channels and optogenetics has transformed neuroscience by enabling precise control of nerve cells using light, unlocking new avenues for studying brain function and neurological disorders.

Meanwhile, in the field of physics, Francis Halzen from the University of Wisconsin–Madison was honored with the Nobel Prize in Physics. His visionary contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, which detects elusive neutrinos traveling through matter, have revealed insights into high-energy cosmic events and the universe's most enigmatic phenomena, such as distant galaxies and black holes.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was bestowed upon Henri B. Kagan from Université Paris-Saclay (formerly Université Paris-Sud) in France and Kenso Soai from the University of Tokyo in Japan. They were recognized for their discoveries in asymmetric organic synthesis, which has allowed chemical reactions to favor specific molecular forms, thereby uncovering crucial mechanisms in biological systems and advancing the synthesis of medicines and other biologically active compounds.

In the literary world, Anne Carson, a Canadian poet, essayist, classicist, and translator, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy commended her for her "bold and inventive oeuvre" that seamlessly intertwines classical literature with contemporary writing forms, bringing ancient Greek texts into dialogue with modern literary techniques.
