2027: Wike declares self Tinubu FCT ‘campaign commander’

In a significant move ahead of the 2027 general elections, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike announced on Monday that he would be the campaign commander for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in the FCT and Rivers State. Wike made the declaration at a stakeholders' meeting in Abuja, where he outlined a cross-party strategy involving both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure Tinubu's victory.

The coalition's primary focus was on the presidential election, with participants agreeing to set aside their party affiliations for the sake of the election. Wike emphasized the administration's achievements, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the appointment of a FCT native as Head of the Civil Service, and the creation of Women Affairs and Youth Development secretariats.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects such as road construction, school renovations, and the establishment of police stations across the territory. Despite acknowledging some economic hardships resulting from recent reforms, Wike defended the President's economic policies, stating that difficult decisions were necessary to address Nigeria's longstanding economic challenges.
