Ranji Trophy: Omkar Salvi Hails Mumbai's Resilience, Praises Siddhesh Lad's Leadership After Day 1 Against Chandigarh

Mumbai's head coach Omkar Salvi commended his players for demonstrating resilience and discipline during the first day of their Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium. Salvi highlighted Siddhesh Lad's leadership and the team's ability to recover from early setbacks, resulting in a score of 250 for five. The coach praised the batters' commitment to the plan, noting the partnerships between Musheer Khan, Ayush Mhatre, Akash and Lad that helped Mumbai consolidate their position despite wickets falling at crucial stages.

Salvi expressed particular admiration for Lad, who showed maturity under pressure and grew tremendously as a player over the last two seasons. Despite failures by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan, Salvi remained confident in their ability to bounce back. The coach also dismissed suggestions that Mumbai should have been more aggressive, emphasizing the need to respect the conditions and the situation.

Salvi stressed the importance of extending Mumbai's first innings, pointing to the depth available in the lower order. He also acknowledged Chandigarh's bowling effort, despite the visitors' unfamiliarity with Wankhede conditions. Salvi reflected on Mumbai's quarter-final exit last season, crediting the players for their off-season assessments and skill improvements.

He praised Lad's longevity, attributing it to his passion for red-ball cricket and his willingness to mentor youngsters. Lastly, Salvi welcomed former India cricketer Sandeep Patil's presence in the dressing room, expressing confidence in his guidance for the team.
