Police arrest four suspects, recover three stolen vehicles in Kano

The Kano State Police Command made four arrests and recovered three stolen vehicles during separate operations carried out on October 8 and 9, 2026. These efforts were part of the broader campaign to combat vehicle theft through intelligence gathering, technical assistance, and public cooperation. Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, reported these developments in a statement released on October 11.

The first case involved a 2010 Toyota Corolla owned by Aminu Yahaya of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano. Yahaya had entrusted the car to Sale Usman, also known as Dambu, of Fagge Quarters, on September 22 with the intention of selling it and sharing the earnings. However, Sale allegedly took the vehicle without the owner's consent and sold it to an unknown party.

Police officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad recovered the car from a man named Sulaiman in Katsina State. The buyer claimed to have paid N7.5 million for the vehicle. Ongoing investigations are being conducted in this case.

In another operation, two suspects were apprehended after a Toyota Hiace minibus was reported stolen from Singer Market on October 5. The vehicle belonged to Isah Abdullahi of Bachirawa Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area and was identified by its white color and registration number NSR 261 XB. With technical support, police traced the minibus to a remote area in Mariri Magadawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, where they arrested Abubakar Umar, 23, from Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, from Layin Makabarta in Tarauni Local Government Area.

Both suspects were taken into custody, and the stolen minibus was recovered from them. The third operation resulted in the arrest of Abdullahi Adamu, 40, from Potiskum, Yobe State, in connection with the theft of a Mitsubishi Canter truck. A surveillance team from Ungogo Police Division apprehended the suspect on October 8 after receiving reliable intelligence.

Adamu was found in possession of the blue and white truck at a garage in Kadawa Quarters, where it had been taken for repainting. During questioning, Adamu admitted to stealing the truck from Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum, Yobe State. The police stated that the truck had been recovered, and they have contacted their counterpart in Yobe State to proceed with further actions to identify the rightful owner.

The Kano State Police Command emphasized that all four suspects would face court charges once investigations are completed. They also stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend any remaining suspects at large. The Commissioner of Police commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division for their professionalism, swift response, and adept use of technical intelligence.

He urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant, park their vehicles securely, entrust their property only to trusted individuals, and install additional security measures. The police also called upon residents to provide credible information and report suspicious activities, especially those related to the sale of vehicles at significantly discounted prices.

The public can report emergencies or suspicious activities through the police command's telephone lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
