A retired teacher in Pahang has lost more than RM1.1 million in an alleged investment scam, promoted on TikTok, according to Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob. The 65-year-old victim came across an advertisement for a stock investment scheme and contacted someone claiming to represent the company via WhatsApp. He was subsequently briefed on stock investments and financial market analysis before agreeing to participate in the scam.
From August 21 to October 7, the victim executed 22 transactions across six different bank accounts, using both online banking and over-the-counter services at financial institutions. According to Azry Akmar, the victim was also coerced into making additional payments even after completing all transactions. Upon realizing he had been scammed and not receiving the promised returns, the man reported the incident to the Pekan District Police Headquarters on October 8. The case falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
