Pahang retiree loses over RM1.1m in TikTok-promoted investment scam

A retired teacher from Pahang has suffered a loss of more than RM1.1 million following a non-existent stock investment scheme that was promoted on TikTok, according to the acting police chief of Pahang. The 65-year-old victim came across an advertisement and subsequently contacted an individual who claimed to represent the company via WhatsApp.

After being briefed on stock investments and financial market analysis, the victim agreed to participate in the scheme. Over the course of 22 transactions between August 21 and October 7, the man carried out these activities using online banking and over-the-counter services at financial institutions. Azry Akmar stated that the victim was required to make additional payments even after all transactions were completed.

Upon realizing he had been scammed and did not receive promised returns, the man filed a police report at the Pekan District Police Headquarters. The case falls under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
