Eight men have been arrested by the Bono Regional Police Command for allegedly assaulting a 21-year-old man during an initiation into an internet fraud syndicate in Kotokrom, a suburb of Sunyani West Municipality. The suspects, aged between 18 and 30, were apprehended on October 4, 2026, after a distress call reported a group attacking a man at the location.

The victim, Godstime Umukoro, was found with numerous marks of assault upon the officers' arrival. The suspects, identified as Peter Mbam, Godwin Moses, Humble Oweifah, Osas Ogbemudia, Samuel Aisosa, Ashile Godbess, Alexander Uyuo, and Patrick Romans, claimed they had beaten Umukoro as part of his initiation into the business, according to preliminary interrogations.

These suspects reportedly admitted to undergoing a similar process before joining the alleged operation. The police statement also revealed that the suspects used images of foreign military personnel to deceive victims online, posing as military personnel deployed in Yemen. The group, led by Nwachukwu King Augustine, allegedly persuaded their targets to send money, which was paid into an account controlled by Augustine.

The police commend the public for their swift intervention, leading to the arrests and assure continued collaboration with residents in combating crime in the region.
