Tinubu assures swift action to rescue abducted Borno children

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum revealed on Friday that President Bola Tinubu has assured him that government agencies will rescue children abducted from Askira-Uba Local Government Area. The abductions occurred in Mussa and other communities. Zulum met with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to discuss the security situation in the state.

He assured parents that the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, and National Security Adviser would take necessary measures to rescue the abducted children. Despite the abductions, Zulum reported that security in Borno has improved significantly over the past six months to a year. The state has resettled over two million people back to their ancestral homes since 2017.

A military formation is being established in Kareto, a key location that has experienced frequent abductions and attacks. The government is also working to reopen the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road, which residents previously had to take a long detour to access. Oil exploration is set to resume in Borno, after being suspended for a year or two due to logistical issues.
