Shelby runs for 311 yards in dominant football win over Ontario

Shelby senior offensive lineman Gavin Garrett acknowledged that his team's performance at Clear Fork the previous week fell short of his expectations. With this knowledge, Garrett and his offensive line teammates went all out during their game against Ontario, a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference unbeaten team, and ultimately emerged victorious with a dominant 41-7 win over the Warriors.

Garrett emphasized the importance of taking control of the game and trusting in each other's abilities. The Whippets' 311 rushing yards on 36 carries and their 431 total yards of offense proved crucial as the game turned lopsided after the Whippets claimed the line of scrimmage. Shelby coach Rob Mahaney attributed the team's success to their offensive line, highlighting Max Miller's return from injury and his impact on the run game.

Senior quarterback Michael Shepherd's performance was particularly noteworthy, as he rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, while Luke Blevins, Gavin Baker, and Brady Bowman each contributed significantly to the team's victory. Ontario coach Aaron Eckert recognized that his team lost the battle in the trenches, admitting that Shelby's performance was exceptional considering the challenges they faced.

Shelby's strong defensive line also played a significant role in the win, holding Ontario to only 18 rushing yards for the game. The Whippets' coach praised the team's run defense, which had been their biggest strength throughout the season. In conclusion, Shelby's dedication and execution in both the offensive and defensive lines secured their victory and set the stage for a successful regular season, with a chance to clinch a league championship and set up a postseason run.
