Defense leads way for Shelby football in win over Lincolnton. Here's how
Billed as a matchup between two of the state's more potent offenses, it was the Shelby and Lincolnton defense which instead took center stage. Here's how the game was decided.
Shelby's defense was the key to a 9-7 victory over Lincolnton in their Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A conference matchup. After meeting twice previously, both teams had a chance to repeat their previous success. The Golden Lions secured a significant win at their home stadium, outscoring their rivals 9-7. Shelby's defense held Lincolnton to only 203 total yards and limited them to only 266 yards.
With only six minutes left in the game, Calvin Scott led his team to victory with a crucial fourth-down conversion. This win extends Shelby's winning streak to eight consecutive home games and 14 overall, keeping them atop the Southern Piedmont conference standings.
