President Mahama inspects health, agriculture and road projects, commissions BNI regional office on day one of Ahafo tour

On his groundbreaking tour of the Ahafo region, President John Dramani Mahama visited the Bechem Poultry and Meat Processing Factory under construction. This factory is part of the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, which has played a significant role in increasing Ghana's domestic poultry production from four percent to 22 percent. The Feed Ghana Programme's Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative has contributed to a surplus in egg production, demonstrating the necessity for increased processing and marketing opportunities for poultry farmers.

Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku informed the President about the project's progress. He highlighted the factory's role in producing poultry feed and housing a hatchery, both of which would bolster the local poultry value chain. The factory, 58 percent completed at the time of Mahama's inspection, is set to transform Bechem into the nation's poultry capital upon completion.

The President reminisced about laying the foundation for the factory on November 27, 2025. He expressed his vision of Bechem becoming Ghana's poultry hub once the facility is operational. Encouraging young people to engage in poultry farming, Mahama emphasized the market potential for locally produced chicken. The Nifahene of Bechem, Awuah Boadi, praised the President for the project, expressing confidence that it would generate more employment opportunities for the local youth. He also noted that the factory had already employed several residents.

The Bechem Poultry and Meat Processing Factory is a key component of the government's broader objectives under the Feed Ghana Programme. This initiative aims to increase domestic food production, create jobs, and strengthen Ghana's agricultural and agro-processing sectors.
