President John Dramani Mahama recently commissioned two new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Ahyiaem and Nsuapemkrom in Ghana's Tano North Municipality. These facilities aim to enhance access to primary healthcare and bring essential services closer to the residents of these communities. During the commissioning ceremony, Mahama highlighted that 80% of the District Assemblies Common Fund is allocated directly to the assemblies.
This allocation allows them to provide necessary infrastructure to better the lives of their constituents. He further mentioned that the assemblies are expected to utilize these funds for various development projects, such as constructing two CHPS compounds, classroom blocks, district economy markets, and completing inherited projects.
The Ahyiaem CHPS compound will soon be registered under the Free Primary Healthcare program, ensuring residents can access healthcare services through this initiative. Dr. Akosua Frema Edwaaben, the Dormaahemaa, pledged the community's commitment to maintaining the facility for its sustainable operation and the continuous provision of healthcare services to its residents.
These newly built CHPS compounds contribute to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and expanding access to essential services in the Ahafo Region.
