KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Sultan Ibrahim granted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the prestigious Darjah Utama Seri Mahkota Negara (DMN) award during a special ceremony at Dewan Seri Maharaja. The Egyptian leader was in Malaysia for a two-day state visit, having arrived yesterday. El-Sisi was greeted upon his arrival at the Istana Negara parade square, marking the first visit by an Egyptian president to Malaysia in nearly three decades.
The last Egyptian president to visit Malaysia was Mohamed Hosni Mubarak in November 1997, during his attendance at the G-15 Summit in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations since 1959.
