Imported Almonds Become More Expensive Ahead of Winters

The cost of imported almonds may rise before winter as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has increased their customs values for shelled and soft-shell almonds. The value of shelled almonds has jumped from $3.00 to $3.81 per kilogram, a 27 percent increase. Soft-shell almonds will be assessed at $2.19 per kilogram, up from $2.14.

However, the value for hard-shell almonds has been lowered from $1.95 to $1.41 per kilogram. These new figures are used to calculate import duties and taxes, not set retail prices. The higher valuations could raise the cost of importing shelled and soft-shell almonds, though the effect on consumer prices is unclear. The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi issued Valuation Ruling No. 2111/2026 after a new assessment of import data, local market prices, international prices, and a market survey.

The ruling also includes value-added almonds like roasted and salted types, which will be assessed at 15 percent above the standard rates. The revised values apply to all countries importing into Pakistan, with an exception for foods cleared through land border stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
