Today, Sultan Ibrahim honored El-Sisi with the prestigious Grand Seri Maharaja Mahkota Award at the Royal Palace in a special ceremony before the National Welcome Dinner, commemorating the Egyptian leader's arrival in the country. Other dignitaries present included Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Defence Minister Khaled Nordin, Foreign Minister Mohamed Hasan, Trade, Industry and Investment Minister Johari Abdul Ghani, and esteemed delegates from Egypt.
Earlier, El-Sisi received a national welcome at the Royal Palace grounds at 10:08 AM. El-Sisi's visit to Malaysia, on an invitation from Sultan Ibrahim, is the first-ever presidential visit from Egypt to Malaysia in nearly three decades since former President Hosni Mubarak's visit in November 1997 for the G-15 Summit in Kuala Lumpur and his official visit in 1979 as Egypt's Vice President. Malaysia and Egypt have maintained diplomatic relations since 1959.
