5-star point guard GG Banks picks South Carolina, Dawn Staley over Texas, LSU
South Carolina women's basketball and coach Dawn Staley landed five-star point guard GG Banks for the 2027 class over Texas and LSU.
Jezelle GG Banks, the highly-rated point guard entering the 2027 class, has committed to the University of South Carolina under head coach Dawn Staley. This decision marks the latest in a series of successful recruitments for Staley, who has secured top-ranked players for four consecutive years. Banks made her official visit to South Carolina in September, joining two other 2027 recruits, Jordyn Palmer and Taylor Brown, who also committed to the team recently.
Both Palmer and Brown expressed their commitment to the Gamecocks on October 3rd. Banks, standing at 5-foot-10, is from Wilmington, Delaware and was recognized as the 2024-25 Gatorade Delaware Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Staley first offered her services to Banks in July 2023, and the decision was finalized on October 10th.
This commitment strengthens South Carolina's position in the SEC and adds another dynamic player to the roster.
