US leads fresh Ukraine peace push with Miami talks

The US is leading a renewed diplomatic push for peace in Ukraine, with talks scheduled in Miami involving Ukrainian and European officials, as well as US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The talks aim to break the stalemate in the conflict, which has been exacerbated by the entanglement with energy prices. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the conflict has reached a potentially explosive impasse, with the risk of further escalation if a negotiated settlement cannot be reached.

Meanwhile, President Trump announced a deal with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to boost diesel supplies, underscoring the connection between the war and soaring energy prices. The Miami discussions will also cover energy supplies, a partial ceasefire, and grain shipments, as the urgency to find a settlement grows with the approach of winter.
