‘Today is for the rakyat, tomorrow is for the wife’: Syed Saddiq’s Budget 2027 reply amuses social media

Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has left netizens amused with his response to a post on the social media platform Threads regarding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's Budget 2027 presentation. The 34-year-old, who was present at the event, recently shared a comment on Threads himself, earning over 170,000 views and 12,000 likes.

In his post, Syed Saddiq playfully mentioned that "Today is for the rakyat, tomorrow is for the wife" as he apologized for missing the main event to attend his wedding ceremony the following day.

Social media users found his choice of words endearing, with netizens like bloombae.byainawanie joking that "he mentions 'wife' referring to someone else but I'm the one who's feeling the butterflies" and nadhrahy_ commenting, "From fiancée, to future wife to now just wife, so cute." Even Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul wished Syed Saddiq and his future spouse, singer-actress Bella Astillah, a "Selamat Pengantin Baru Muar" ("Congratulations on your wedding, Muar") after the Budget presentation.

The wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place at the 118th floor of the Merdeka 118 on October 10, with a following reception on October 18 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec). The couple plans to host two public wedding receptions, called Kenduri Rakyat (people's feast), in Muar, Johor, and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on October 25 and October 31, respectively, inviting members of the public to partake in their special day.
