Tawau police arrest 14 boys after playground fight with weapons goes viral on social media

Tawau police have apprehended 14 male students following a violent playground altercation involving weapons, which has since gone viral on social media. The Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh, informed that the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tawau District Police Headquarters apprehended the suspects, aged between 12 and 14, to aid in their investigation.

The incident reportedly escalated from a misunderstanding between two students, eventually involving several others. A video recording of the incident played a crucial role in identifying the individuals and their roles. The police also recovered a mobile phone and a black bicycle, believed to be connected to the investigation. The case is currently being probed under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The police are conducting investigations to ascertain the involvement and role of each arrested individual, and are also collecting original video recordings, witness statements, and the detainees' statements. They are awaiting the victim's medical report and are collaborating with school authorities and the Tawau District Education Office.

Rosdi urged the public to come forward with any relevant information, suggesting they contact Insp Robiatul Adawiyah Japri at 016-918 9402 or visit their nearest police station. He emphasized that any act of rioting, attacking others, or using objects as weapons is a serious offence and will not be tolerated. Parents and guardians are advised to monitor their children's associations and behavior, while students are cautioned against getting involved in fights or provoking others.
