Bethesda School wins Bible quiz for blind students

The Bethesda School for the Blind claimed victory in the eighth edition of the "You Can Be Their Eyes" Bible Quiz competition, organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria. The event took place at the Salvation Army, Igbobi Corps, Somolu, Lagos, on Thursday. Although Bethesda and Pacelli School for the Blind both scored 75 points, Bethesda emerged as the winner after a tie-breaker.

Pacelli School secured second place with 40 points, while Federal Government College, Ijanikin Junior School, finished third with the same score. The senior students of the college placed fourth with 20 points.

The competition aimed to test the Bible knowledge of visually impaired students and support their growth. Pastor Isaac Adeyemi, the chairman of the event, emphasized that physical limitations should not hinder individuals from reaching their potential. He expressed admiration for the students' enthusiasm and highlighted the importance of fostering joy despite life's challenges. Adeyemi also urged the Bible Society of Nigeria to consider providing more opportunities for the students to explore and develop other talents.

Pastor Samuel Sanusi, the General Secretary/CEO of the Bible Society of Nigeria, acknowledged the organization's successful continuation of the program for eight years. He encouraged the contestants, emphasizing that all participants were winners irrespective of their final positions. The General Secretary stressed the importance of further support for people living with disabilities, urging the government and individuals to increase their efforts in addressing their welfare and development.

The participating schools and their scores were as follows: Federal Government College, Ijanikin Senior with 20 points, Federal Government College, Ijanikin Junior with 40 points, Pacelli School for the Blind with 75 points, and Bethesda School for the Blind with 75 points. As part of the awards, all contestants received school bags and white canes.

The first, second, and third-place students received plaques, with first-place students taking home N50,000 each, second-place students receiving N35,000 each, and third-place students receiving N25,000 each.
