Uba Sani To Northern Elites: Chart A Common Development Blueprint

Governor Uba Sani has advised northern political elite to focus more on charting a development blueprint that will tackle the problems of the region, instead of seeking for power at the centre. The Governor pointed out that the north is bedevilled with problems like out-of-school children, deficit is skill-based education and inadequate good healthcare delivery […]

Governor Uba Sani has urged northern political elites to concentrate on creating a unified development plan to address the region's challenges, rather than seeking power at the national level. During a visit by the leadership of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation to the Government House in Kaduna, Sani emphasized that the north faces issues such as out-of-school children, insufficient skill-based education, and inadequate healthcare delivery.

Acknowledging the Foundation's efforts, Sani welcomed their call for a focus on core human capital development issues, noting that the forthcoming Summit on Good Governance, Industry, Creativity, and Sustainable Development is timely. He expressed appreciation for the Foundation's leadership in this direction, emphasizing the need to collectively address the region's problems.

Sani highlighted the high rates of maternal and child mortality, the large number of out-of-school children, and the lack of practical skills education in the north. Under his administration, Kaduna State prioritizes primary and secondary healthcare, particularly for the poor and vulnerable. Using UNICEF statistics, Sani revealed that there are approximately 18 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, with 70% of them residing in northern states.

His administration has returned 360,000 children to schools since taking office, and a similar household-mapping approach has been adopted by the Federal Ministry of Education. Sani also revealed that the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development, located in Soba, Rigachikun, and Samarun Kataf, has graduated over 4,000 artisans and tradespeople, focusing on practical skills in ICT, mechatronics, and renewable energy.

The Institute is set to admit 32,000 students annually, capable of training over 30,000 youths per year. Earlier, former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mua'zu Babangida Aliyu, on behalf of the Foundation delegation, thanked Sani for granting the Foundation 50 hectares of land to establish the Arewa Unity University. Aliyu reminded Sani of the late Governor Yakowa's generous gift of land where the Foundation's office was built.

The Summit, themed "Good Governance, Industry, and Creativity, as well as Sustainable Development," is scheduled for October 28, 2026, with Sani as the Chief Host and Special Guest of Honor.
