Samsung Vietnam to deepen cooperation with local manufacturers
Samsung Vietnam will broaden and deepen its cooperation with local manufacturers while building a more systematic support network to help Vietnamese businesses strengthen production capabilities and participate more deeply in global supply chains according to Cha Ji Ho vice president of the Vietnam Procurement Center at Samsung Vietnam
Samsung Vietnam announced its intention to strengthen its collaboration with local manufacturers in Vietnam during a recent seminar held in Hanoi on October 8. The event, titled "Reaching out to innovative global supply chains," attracted a diverse gathering of government officials, diplomats, businesses, and economic experts.
Cha Ji Ho, vice president of the Vietnam Procurement Center at Samsung Vietnam, highlighted the company's commitment to working alongside the Vietnamese government and local businesses to enhance the manufacturing capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises. Samsung aims to create a more stable and resilient supply chain while boosting the localisation of components and fostering a sustainable manufacturing ecosystem.
The company's approach has been guided by its philosophy of shared prosperity, which emphasizes improving the competitiveness of local manufacturers and helping them develop their own manufacturing capabilities. Samsung has been dedicated to enhancing the productivity and quality of Vietnamese enterprises through various programmes over the past decade.
These initiatives have primarily focused on two key areas: strengthening the manufacturing capabilities of local enterprises and developing the skills of local professionals. In the first phase, Samsung provided production innovation consulting to 379 companies between 2015 and 2021 and trained 406 production innovation specialists from 2018 to 2021. In the second phase, Samsung shifted its focus towards developing core capabilities, including smart manufacturing.
Since 2022, Samsung has supported 14 additional companies in smart factory development, training 40 smart manufacturing specialists, bringing the total number of supported enterprises to 96 and the number of trained specialists to 241. Samsung has also expanded its support to smart mould-making and automation, training 13 practitioners in smart mould-making and 23 in automation.
Looking ahead, Samsung plans to take its cooperation with Vietnamese supporting industries to new heights by prioritizing broader, deeper, and more systematic support. The company aims to expand its programmes to key industrial areas in northern and southern Vietnam, including Phu Tho, Haiphong, and Thai Nguyen. Samsung will also increase the geographical coverage and number of participating enterprises in smart factories, smart mould-making, and automation consulting.
In addition, Samsung intends to develop local capabilities more deeply by establishing a pool of internal leaders who can drive continuous improvement within their organizations. The company will identify key personnel at the factory level, strengthen their practical skills, and guide them to become internal leaders. This approach will involve on-the-job training and coaching in problem-solving, quality management, and standardised operations.
