Karen Read Series Starring and Executive Produced by Elizabeth Banks Ordered at Amazon
Banks plays Read in the unauthorized drama series written by Justin Noble.
Warner Bros. Television and Prime Video have announced the series order for a drama adapted from Elizabeth Banks' Karen Read drama, based on the Law&Crime and Audible Original podcast "Karen." The one-hour drama series will consist of eight episodes, with Banks starring and serving as an executive producer. Justin Noble, known for "The Sex Lives Of College Girls" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," will write, showrun, and executive produce the project.
David E. Kelley, famous for "The Practice" and "Dharma & Greg," will also executive produce. The drama is inspired by the true crime case of Karen Read, a Boston police officer's girlfriend who became the centerpiece of a controversial investigation. Banks explained that the series explores the complexities of a deeply flawed justice system and the societal obsession with true crime.
Noble commended the story for its twists and turns, shedding light on issues of power abuse and the mistreatment of women within the justice system. Amazon MGM Studios head of global TV Peter Friedlander emphasized that the series delves into the profound implications of what happens when truth becomes subjective and communities are forced to confront deep divisions.
Audible and Law&Crime are also executive producers, with additional executives including Max Handelman, Krissy Wall, Matthew Tinker, Aaron Hart, Marshall Lewy, Jeni Mulein, Jen Sargent, Rachel Stockman, and Dan Abrams.
