Will Cameron Fens play for UNC basketball vs USC in exhibition game?
UNC basketball will open its preseason schedule without center Cameron Fens. Here's what Michael Malone said about it.
UNC basketball center Cameron Fens has opted out of playing in the Tar Heels' exhibition game against Southern Cal in Greensboro, as he awaits a ruling on his eligibility. The 7-foot Fens, a South Dakota transfer, is seeking a fifth year with the Tar Heels. As of October 7, he has not been cleared to play for Michael Malone's squad.
Following a court ruling, UNC coach Malone announced that Fens will not play in Friday night's exhibition game, which will be televised on the ACC Network. Malone expressed his hope that Fens and other players in similar situations will receive clarity soon, while praising Fens' talent and dedication. The Tar Heels bolstered their frontcourt depth by adding Fens in August, along with three other newcomers.
Head coach Malone said that the team will give the new players ample practice time to prepare for the game, regardless of Fens' eligibility status.
