Chisora wants Fury vs Joshua for 117-year-old belt

Veteran British boxer Derek Chisora has stated that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua should fight for the 117-year-old British Lord Lonsdale heavyweight belt instead of the vacant WBA super heavyweight title at their upcoming bout in Cardiff. The two former world champions, aged 38 and 36 respectively, have never faced each other and their upcoming match will be streamed on Netflix.

Chisora, who has lost to Fury three times and helped train Joshua at Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, believes the Lonsdale belt would be a more prestigious honor for the fighters. He argued that the Lonsdale belt is superior to other belts like the WBC Silver, WBC Africa, and that there is only one British champion on the belt. Chisora also expressed that he expects the loser of the fight to take time off due to the physical toll of the match, and predicted that neither Fury nor Joshua would be willing to fight again.

Both contestants recently cleared their final hurdles, with Fury defeating Mariusz Wach and Joshua stopping Kristian Prenga. Chisora is also exploring a December fight against WBA regular champion Murat Gassiev.
