Call Screening has made a big difference to my iPhone experience

Call Screening has made a big difference to my iPhone experience

In the latest iteration of iOS, Apple has introduced a feature called Call Screening to the Phone app. I am among those who began using this feature a few months ago and have found it to be a game-changer for my iPhone experience. Prior to adopting this tool, I took considerable care in managing my phone number, sharing it only when absolutely necessary and sometimes opting for fake numbers on various forms.

Despite these precautions, my mobile number has been exposed on numerous marketing lists and I have been a target of unwanted robocalls.

Initially, I hesitated to enable Call Screening, fearing I might miss important calls. However, I eventually gave in and selected the "Ask Reason for Calling" option. Since then, I have not received a single spam or scam call. These calls were primarily from entities impersonating my mobile carrier, attempting to trick me into switching networks or harvesting personal information.

Additionally, I have been protected from numerous job scam calls. Upon activating the feature, any of these calls would immediately hang up after the automated response, and a few would even disclose their reason for calling, which was always clear enough for me to reject.

Though some genuine calls occasionally get filtered, those that do have typically provided their identity and purpose for calling, allowing me to answer the call. I strongly encourage anyone who has not yet enabled Call Screening to do so. To do so, go to the Settings app, navigate to the App section, select Phone, and then scroll down to Screen Unknown Callers. For more Apple news, check out 9to5Mac on YouTube.
