U Mobile Achieves 90% 5G CoPA Over Nine Months Ahead Of Schedule

U Mobile has successfully achieved 90% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) for its second 5G network rollout in Malaysia, surpassing its initial July 2027 target by over nine months. This milestone was reached ahead of schedule, as per CEO Wong Heang Tuck's statement. The network's nationwide launch began on July 14, 2025, aiming to upgrade 6,515 sites within its first year.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil had previously set the goal of achieving 80% 5G coverage in populated areas within the first year, with a target of 95% by the third year. U Mobile had already hit 80% CoPA in March 2026, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the country's fastest 5G network deployment.

CEO Wong emphasized that the significance of this achievement extends beyond speed, emphasizing connectivity to Malaysians and highlighting the telco's high network speeds. Moving forward, the company will focus on enhancing network quality, reliability, and indoor coverage, currently having deployed ULTRA5G indoors at over 250 sites, including hospitals and industrial locations.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil echoed these sentiments, stating that digital infrastructure is crucial for technological progress and that the next challenge is to encourage industries to adopt these facilities.
