Three crocodiles, including 4.75m giant, captured in Sarawak’s Batang Igan

SIBU, October 6 — In a recent operation, three sizable crocodiles ranging in length from 2.44 metres to 4.75 metres were captured within the past three days near Ulu Kampung Kebuaw in the Batang Igan river, Sarawak. Licensed crocodile hunter Jeferry Siew Seng Kwong, who led a four-member team, reported that the largest specimen, measuring 4.75 metres and weighing an estimated 500 kilogrammes, was seized at approximately 2:30 am on October 6 with the assistance of local villagers.

Residents had reached out to the hunters due to frequent sightings of crocodiles in the area, including a concerning incident where a crocodile attacked a pet dog. Upon capturing the giant crocodile, villagers assisted the team in lifting it onto a boat.

The crocodile capture initiative commenced on October 3, resulting in the capture of three crocodiles thus far. The first two measured 2.44 metres and 2.74 metres respectively, captured on October 4 and 5. During the operation, the team also discovered a nest containing around 40 crocodile eggs. Jeferry expressed gratitude to the residents of Kampung Kebuaw for their cooperation and teamwork throughout the endeavor, as well as to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for their support.

Since acquiring a hunting license for crocodiles two years ago, Jeferry has captured over 100 of these reptiles.
