The Montreal Canadiens announced on Tuesday that forward Ivan Demidov will miss two to four weeks due to a lower-body injury. Fans will have to wait longer to see him play at the Bell Centre, as the team's home opener is tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. Demidov scored a goal in the final minute of their previous game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which sent the match to overtime.
He missed yesterday's practice and Tuesday's morning skate, and he also postponed two signing events. The extent of his injury is unclear, but his absence marks his first career game missed. To fill in, Kirby Dach will move up to the second line, while Florian Xhekaj makes his Canadiens debut. Head coach Martin St. Louis is confident in the team's depth to handle Demidov's absence. The Canadiens face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
