Ranking: Unterschätzt, aber dynamisch: Zehn Städte und Regionen, die derzeit gute Jobchancen bieten

The job market in Germany is tight, with over half of Germans believing that finding a job is more challenging now than a year ago, according to a LinkedIn survey. This has led many to look into regions that were previously off their wish lists, but now offer new opportunities. While traditional cities like Hamburg, Munich, and Frankfurt still attract many job seekers, there are areas outside the metropolises with above-average career prospects, according to a further analysis of LinkedIn data.

In its "Cities on the Rise" report, LinkedIn highlights ten cities and regions across Germany where there are currently particularly many opportunities for attractive jobs. The study focuses on midsize and smaller agglomerations, excluding larger cities like Munich and Berlin with over a million LinkedIn members. Bremen tops the list this year, up from fifth place last year, despite having an unemployment rate more than 11% higher than the national average.

The LinkedIn ranking does not measure the general economic situation or the unemployment rate, but rather indicators of labor market dynamics: more placements, more job offers, and professional immigration. Matthias Bergleiter, LinkedIn's head of news, explains that the rankings are based on trends, reflecting relative growth rather than the current static overall situation.

Bremen's new prospects are driven by a boom in the defense industry, with companies like OHB SE, Rheinmetall, and Airbus Defence establishing their headquarters in the city. Heilbronn has risen from ninth to second place, thanks to its growing focus on artificial intelligence and the planned aggregation of activities of up to eight Fraunhofer centers.

The nearby Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region, featuring cities like Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, and Heidelberg, has climbed to third place. Ludwigshafen, home to the DAX company BASF, and SAP, with around 55,000 employees in Germany, including 33,000 in Ludwigshafen, also feature in the ranking. The southwestern states, including Tübingen (5th), Karlsruhe (8th), and Freiburg (9th), also have strong job prospects.

NRW also features notable regions, with Münster (6th) growing steadily, and Düsseldorf (7th) experiencing a surge in startup creations. The Ruhr region has also made it to the top four, benefiting from its role as a hub for the energy transition and hydrogen economy, as well as significant investments in infrastructure and urban development in Leipzig, highlighted by a €1.3 billion investment for 2024.
