Nigeria selects Dear Ajayi movie for 2027 Oscars

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee has chosen Dear Ajayi as the country's official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. This announcement was made after the committee reviewed eligible submissions. The film, a period drama directed by Damilola Orimogunje, will now enter the next stage of the Academy Awards process.

Dear Ajayi tells the story of two sisters whose strained relationship is tested when their ailing mother moves in with them, forcing them to confront their past choices and conflicts. The film's selection does not guarantee an Oscar nomination, as it must first go through the Academy's consideration process. Upon selection, NOSC Chairperson Stephanie Linus congratulated the filmmakers, expressing optimism about their film's prospects in the upcoming stage.

The 99th Academy Awards will consider films from various countries and industries, with Nigeria's submission facing further evaluation before the final shortlist and nominees are revealed.
