Exclusive: Gamma ravamps presentation platform to make output look more human

Artificial intelligence company Gamma Tech Inc. has unveiled a revamped edition of its presentation platform, dubbed Gamma 5. This enhanced version aims to inject more unique designs into presentations, social media posts, and website content, while streamlining the creation process by integrating internal tools and information.

Gamma 5 introduces a redesigned editor, a more powerful AI agent, and an expanded library of visual styles. The company's co-founder and Chief Product Officer, Jon Noronha, revealed that the platform addresses the rising issue of AI-generated presentations exhibiting repetitive layouts, generic imagery, and predictable design choices.

The expanded library now comprises thousands of templates, crafted through a blend of human design and AI. The platform leverages over 20 AI models, including those from Anthropic PBC, OpenAI Group PBC, and Google LLC, along with several image generators. These models are selected through internal evaluations and user experiments, with performance metrics such as edit and share rates, or subscription rates, taken into account.

A significant overhaul in Gamma 5 is the increased freedom offered to users, thanks to the more capable AI models. These models can now generate custom code, draw shapes, and arrange elements on a canvas, a capability not present in earlier versions. The AI agent operates in a secure sandbox, generating images, manipulating files, conducting web research, and reviewing its own output. It also checks for issues like text overflowing slides or awkwardly cropped images.

Before slide generation, users can collaborate with the AI agent on an outline, refining the presentation's argument, intended audience, and visual approach. In terms of visuals, Gamma 5 emphasizes illustrations over AI-generated photos, as illustrations can convey business and educational information effectively while avoiding common issues with photorealistic images.

Gamma 5 supports over 20 connectors for bringing external information into presentations, including Salesforce's Slack and transcription services like Granola, Fireflies.ai, and Fathom Video. These connectors apply users' existing authorizations, and the AI agent can flag sensitive material for discussion. The platform also supports importing PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, and other existing materials for editing, with an internal benchmark showing an export accuracy rate of over 97%.

The platform retains brand preferences, custom instructions, and workspace templates across projects, allowing teams to reuse design choices and company context as they develop new materials. This helps maintain consistency across work, Noronha explained. Users have reported that Gamma reduces the time needed to create presentations from between eight and 10 hours to approximately 30 minutes, largely due to reduced formatting.

Beyond these measurable improvements, Gamma 5 aims to enhance the relevance of presentations to intended audiences.

Founded in 2020, Gamma has amassed around 110 million sign-ups for its free version. Noronha, though, did not disclose active-user or subscriber counts. The company has secured $90 million in venture financing from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz LLC and Accel Partners LP. Gamma's roadmap includes advancements in graphic design and video generation, as well as automated workflows that update sales presentations with new customer information from connected business applications.
