Emmy Awards to leave broadcast TV for Amazon's Prime Video in 2027

The Television Academy and Amazon’s Prime Video have reached a six-year agreement, making Prime Video the exclusive global home for the Emmy Awards. This will mark the end of the awards show's rotation among US broadcast networks, which concluded with this year's ceremony. The deal will commence with the 2027 Emmy Awards. For years, traditional television networks, including ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC, alternated hosting the telecast, but this rotating format is now a thing of the past.

With the rise of streaming services, live events and award shows are increasingly sought after by digital platforms. While the Emmy Awards will continue to air live in September, viewers worldwide will be able to watch the event without a Prime Video subscription. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed. This agreement expands Prime Video's portfolio, which already includes original films, television shows, sports, and other partnerships.

The Emmy Awards, established in 1949, recognize excellence in television acting, production, writing, and other categories. They have long been a significant promotional and cultural event for the US television industry.
